Tucked away on Pakenhamhall Road, Castlepollard Parochial National School has been part of the town’s community for generations. With roots stretching back to 1818, it represents one of the oldest traditions of formal education in Castlepollard.

The first purpose-built school in the town was a Church of Ireland parochial school, established in 1818. The present school building dates from around 1879 and is an attractive example of Victorian school architecture, with its original teacher’s residence incorporated into the building.

The school was established to serve the local Church of Ireland community, but today welcomes children from a variety of backgrounds. It remains a small, close-knit primary school with a strong emphasis on community, personal development and giving every child the opportunity to reach their potential.

The historic school forms part of Castlepollard’s wider Pakenhamhall Road heritage, close to the Church of Ireland parish buildings and St Michael’s Church on The Square.
