CLD Welcomes Latest Update On RRDF Funded Works

From the Westmeath Topic.

Castlepollard Local Development has welcomed the latest update on the Rural Regeneration Development Funding works in Castlepollard.

In a statement released last week Castlepollard Local Development said, “The project has already delivered a hugely popular Town Park and Playground open since 2025.

“We now understand that a specialist contractor for building works on the Market House will be appointed in October. The regeneration of the Market House is the central element of the overall plan for the town and will, when finished, provide a new flexible and multi-functional space for the community.

“The works are expected to commence in December and are scheduled to take 18 months – which underlines the complexities involved in working with older heritage buildings. The Market House is situated on the Square at the centre of Castlepollard, all of which is regarded as an architectural conservation area.

“Rural Regeneration Development Funding of €4.7 million for the project was announced in 2022 when Westmeath County Council’s second application to the Department was successful.

“Castlepollard Local Development is proud of its role in developing not just the initial successful plan, but also winning local support for it and engagement during the design process.

“Speaking about the news, Stephen O’Brien chair of CLD said ‘We are all looking forward to the commencement of works and their ultimate completion. It has been a long road so far for us, we are a voluntary community group.

“When finished this will be a tremendous win not just for us in Castlepollard Local Development but for everyone in Castlepollard.”

DEVINE WELCOMES DEVELOPMENTS

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Alfie Devine welcomed the developments in Castlepollard. Speaking to Topic Cllr Devine said,

“There has been a lot of investment in Castlepollard over the past number of years. Over €6 million has been allocated for Castlepollard recently, this includes the new Town Park which is open and the Town Hall which will see an investment of over €1.2 million. Work will begin on the Town Hall in November or December.

“After that road traffic works will take place and this will include traffic calming and pedestrian crossings, making the town safer for access on foot or in cars. A lot of work has happened and a lot of work will happen. It is a culmination of great work by a lot of different groups, over the past number of years.

“Over the past three years Castlepollard Town Team in conjunction with Westmeath County Council, and their Regeneration Team, who have been fantastic and a great help to us, have been putting together plans for the whole future of Castlepollard and how it will look. They bring in the public and let the public have a say on what they feel Castlepollard should look like.

“There are plans for more infrastructure and plans for us to take over public buildings and use them for various things such as a Family Resource Centre, Childcare, an Internet hub or an Internet cafe.

“So we have been working with the regeneration team in Westmeath County Council on all of that. So over the next few years there will be some great changes in Castlepollard, all going well,” concluded Cllr Devine.
